Spicy tomato bhorta.
Tomato Bhorta is a classic Bengali side dish made by mashing roasted or fried tomatoes with mustard oil, garlic, onions, and green chilies. Bursting with smoky, tangy, and spicy flavors, it’s a simple yet flavorful accompaniment to steamed rice.

- 3 tomatoes partly slitted
- 3 dried red chili
- 1/2 red onion sliced
- 3 green chili
- 1/2 cup chopped coriander
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
In a wire rack burn the chili garlic and tomatoes until completely charred.
take them off the stove and take off the black skins.
Now, in a bowl/plate, one by one, mash chili and salt, then add green chilies, garlic, onion and coriander and mix very well. lastly add the charred tomatoes and mash until everything well combined.
Now adjust salt, add a drizzle of mustard oil, some lemon juice and give it one last mix.
enjoy with gorom bhaat, khichuri or congi.
