Patla Khichuri

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups kalijeera, chinigura, basmati rice
  • 1 cup moong daal moong lentil, yellow lentils
  • 1 cup masoor daal masoor lentils, red lentils
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 2 cups bottle guard
  • 1 cup diced pumpkin
  • 1 cup sweet peas
  • 2 cups diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp turmaric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp any meat masala I will post my homemade meat masala recipe on my blog soon.
  • 6-10 pieces fresh chillies
  • 1 tbsp ghee/mustard oil
  • 2 tbsp fried onion and garlic
  • 2 whole bay leaves
  • 2 whole cinnamon
  • 2 whole dried chilli

Equipment

  • 1 large pot or a patil

Method
 

  1. Wash rice and lentils in a bowl, strain and set it aside.
  2. In a pot add oil, temper whole spices.
  3. Add in the sliced onions. cook for a few minutes.
  4. add in the diced potatoes. followed by ginger garlic paste.
    cook for 2,3 minutes.
  5. add in the tomatoes. mix well.
  6. add in chilli and turmaric powder and cook for 2 minutes
    add in the meat masala powder along with rest of the vegetables.
  7. mix well. add washed rice and lentils.
    combine again and cook for a few minutes before adding in 10 cups of hot water .
  8. Adjust salt and let everything come to a boil.
    continuously stir to get a thick mushy consistancy.
  9. Add more water if needed, add green peas.
  10. lower the heat. drizzle some ghee and garnish with gorom masala, chilies, fried onion, garlic, etc.
  11. Simmer for a few more minutes and serve hot.
